La Nit de les Garnatxes - the night of Garnacha

"La Nit de les Garnatxes" is a big festival, the biggest festival in the small town of Capçanes. It is a wine festival dedicated to just one grape variety, the region's grape variety. The Capçanes winery has come up with something very special for this: four different Garnachas, from the four different types of soil that exist around the town. The typical slate of the region, the sand further up in the higher elevations, and clay and limestone further down.

The wine & the soil

Wine and the soil on which it grows is a never-ending story, as each type of soil has its own characteristics. Clay and lime can store water well. Sand, on the other hand, cannot do so at all. Sand is very mineral and forces the vine to have much deeper roots. What does it taste like when you grow the same grape variety on different soils? In the cellar, all the grape batches are treated as equally as possible, which is why the differences are so fascinating.

Comic & Wine - the people behind it

Each bottle is wrapped in a small comic that explains how the respective soil affects the wine and how the wine tastes. The comics are in English, but the pictures are pretty self-explanatory. And the characters in the comic really exist. It is the Capçanes team, and above all the driving force behind the winery, Jürgen Wagner, a Heidelberg native who has lived and worked there for decades.

4 different wines - 4 times the question, how does it taste...

So far, the wines all have the lush fruit of Garnacha, have hardly any tannin and are great to drink. Each wine is simply fun on its own. Some are a little lighter, others are more powerful and dense. It's exciting to try two, three or all four side by side. Invite friends over and try them all.
