The only vineyard site in Laumersheim not built on limestone and loess clay. The Kapellenberg is a prehistoric sandbank. The Rhine and the glacial valleys deposited sand and gravel here over millennia. This site, with its chalk-white, fine sand, produces exclusively Rieslings. The wines are exceptionally elegant, delicately fruity, and lighter than the limestone Rieslings. The name Kapellenberg derives from the Holy Cross Chapel, which was built in memory of the village of Berghaselbach, destroyed in the Thirty Years' War.
